Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I owned a Condo in San Diego, CA, I faced financial Hardship and stopped making mortgage and HOA payments for about 7 months, I soon was foreclosed by the lender, and I volunteered to move out of the condo and gave the keys to the lender's Real Estate Agent. The condo was sold about 2 months after that.

Today about 8 months later I am being served by the Home owners association for the dues that I owed prior to foreclosure!

What should I do? Do I need to pay for all dues and fees?

The unpaid HOA dues you ran up while you still owned the property are your responsibility the same as if you charge your mechanics bills for auto maintenance and then the car gets repo'd. The credit card charges don't just go away with the car any more than your HOA dues go away with the condo.
