Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
There are several poles for telephone and power lines on our property that obstruct our gorgeous view.
I understand that in most places, utility companies have easements that allow them to run their wires through people's property.
I live in Monterey County. How do I find out if the utility companies have an easement here?
I would very much like to get rid of the poles and if I can get them to run the wires somewhere else (or perhaps underground) that would be fantastic.

The easement would be in your deed to your property. If the lines are on your property, however, you can bet there's an easement. Your best bet is to contact the utility companies and see what would be involved in undergrounding. Usually PG&E is the lead company on local utility poles, so you probably should start there. It won't be cheap but they are generally willing to underground for anyone who wants to pay for it.
