Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Is possesion really 9/10ths of law or just myth?

Do I have any rights to ownership of a vehicle that is currently being stored on my property for an unspecified amount of time considering that all of my attempts to contact the owner have been ignored? Is this considered property abandonment? Does my lengthy possesion mean anything?

Possession does not give you any ownership rights but the DMV does have a procedure to get abandoned vehicles registered in your name. I know this be cause I did it with a motorcycle in college. You will have to get the details from them but it involves sending a certified letter to the last registered owner.
