Re: Process Server

Once per lawsuit. The process serving company might possibly tag you more than once by mistake, only the first service is effective to confer jurisdiction over the person.

Re: Process Server

I'd say once per lawsuit is the more usual number, but I can certainly think of exceptions. For example, if you are representing yourself and the other side wants to take your deposition in a hurry, they may decide to serve you personally rather than by mail to save five days on the prior-notice requirement. Other reasons are possible. Possibly a process server could come to your door more than once if additional parties believed to reside at your address are being served; or perhaps you were served one in your individual capacity and then again in your capacity as agent for service of process of a business (corporation, LLC, partnership, etc.). If, however, it is repeated service of the same documents on you in the same capacity, it may be harassment - expensive harassment, I might add; most process servers don't work for free.
