Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

We own a property, which has an easement on it - an underground gas pipe. San Diego Gas and Electric has easement rights to ingress and egress.

"... easement and privilege of placing, constructing, repairing, replacing, maintaining and using, for the transmission and distribution of gas and all purposes connected therewith together with the right to ingress thereto and egress therefrom to and along said line or lines over and across the Grantor's land..."

Since it is a pipe it runs across our property and across several other adjusted properties. When we've bought that property there was a gate on one side of the property and open space (no fence) on other side.

We're planning to place a fence on that opposite side, but we don't know if we can close that perimeter with a fence or place another gate on that opposite side to let utility's trucks to pass through our property. IF we close the perimeter without the second gate, SDG&E will still have an access to the adjusted property, but they'll have to drive around.

We're definitely don't want them to just drive through our property and don't want to erect a second gate, if we have a right to do so. One gate just to enter and exit from the same gate is more then enough.

Can we do that?

Thanks
