Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Proprty changes hands
My apartment has been sold (three months ago), the new land lord has
been evicting the other tenants one by one until My wife and I are left.
He has kept the deposit from other tenants even though the place was
rented unclean and they cleaned their unit cleaner when they left.
My question the landlord has been giving thirty day notices after
cashing the rent check at the beginning of the month. Who would I take
to court to get my money back for the last month rent if he continues
this pattern? Does he owe me interest on my deposit and last months'
rent? And if I complain about a leaky refrigerator can he then retaliate
by giving me notice for complaining? (We're on a month to month lease)
Really the original landlord never gave us a lease we just started
paying rent because the place is run down.
Can you help?

Re: Proprty changes hands
the new owner is responsible for all obligations of the last owner and you would sue the new owner for the deposit.
