Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

there is a public skatepark in el segundo, and i drove out there to skate it with a resident of that city, and we were asked to leave or they would call the police because that park is 18 and under only. i was just wondering is it legal to put an age limit on a pulbic park?

Age limits, either making someone too old or too young, in connection with public facilities, are subject to scrutiny and challenge on Constitutional (unlawful discrimination) grounds, and may be found unconstitutional if the limits are not reasonably related to a valid public purpose. Here, I'm pretty sure the rules would be found valid (not violating anyone's rights) because a city may quite reasonably set up such rules to give kids a place to play. I can't be 100% certain because an argument could be made for the other point of view, and I haven't reviewed any cases relating to childrens' playgrounds, or the like, but based on a lawyer's general understanding of what is and is not unconstitutional discrimination, I'd say this passes.
