Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

we are purchasing our first home (in escrow) and discover a lien against me for alcohol treatment i received in 2004. I was poor and unable to pay so the county picked up whatever disability insurance wouldn't pay. apparently i signed an agreement that if i ever owned property i was to pay. what can i do?
