Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I have a question about a security deposit for a rented property. I signed a 1 year lease to live in a house with two other people. each of us payed a 700 security deposit to move in. The two roomates payed me for the deposit and then I wrote a check for it. At the year end, I moved out of the house and the other two rommates stayed in the house. I never recieved a return of my deposit and my other roomates signed a new lease with the management company. Do I have a legal right to get my money back for the deposit.

If the landlord is not required to refund a deposit after a year, then your former roommates should reimburse you for your portion of the security deposit.

You need to look to the roommates for reimbursement of your share of the deposit; it is probably not the landlord's responsibility as long as at least one of the original cotenants is still renting from it.
