You are entitled to go to fee arbitration if you dispute the fees once the matter is over. Usually, the bar association of the county you're in will have a fee arbitration program. Go to http://www.riversidecountybar.com/ and click on "Fee Arbitration" on the left. Then there are various links to help you out. Bring written reviews by those who have reviewed the fees.

Mr. Cohen has given a thorough and comprehensive answer. Follow his advice.

You may be a victim of overcharging. However, the reverse is that one who has spent many years becoming an expert in a particular area, is entitled to much higher fees than a lesser experienced attorney. Some attorneys bill $100 an hour, others $600 hourly and upward for the same advice. You may have just retained a very competent and experienced attorney.
