Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
a raise in rent
I have lived in my studio now for almost two years. There was a change in ownership and my landlord was let go. The new owners want to raise the rent 100$, however they haven't really made any changes to the property, nor have they walked through my apartment which i keep in good condition. There are issues with my roof and my plumbing. They are clearly looking to raise the rent no matter what. Is this legal? Thank you

Re: a raise in rent
You should check with the rent control/stabilization authority in San Diego to see if there are restrictions on rent increases in your dwelling, and the type of notice that has to be provided. At the same time, you should bring the roof and plumbing issues to the new landlord's attention in a certified, return receipt letter, a copy of which you keep.
