Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Raising Rent
I have live in this complex for almost 4 years and each year they raise rent $30. For this coming Dec. 2001 rent will be raise to $175 each month, not talking year after. Raising $100 each month is way too much already. I have asked the manager if rent will be raise $175 each month, we would like some repair or remodel to be done, like our bathroom etc. are really old, moded, and rusty, but they just ignored us. How can I find out where or the address of the owner, all i have is his name but its not listed in the white page. I always have to deal with the manager, it seems the manager doesn't give any message and to make his own decision instead. Who can help the tenants rights thru repair and raising rent like this. Please help me to answer these questions. Thanks so much. My apartment is located in Garden Grove.

Re: Raising Rent
COMPLAIN IN WRITING TO THE MANAGER, MANAGEMENT COMPANY AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT. MAKE SURE YOU SEND YOUR LETTERS BY CERTIFIED MAIL REPAIRS SHOULD BE COMPLETED.
Re: Raising Rent
A landlord is required to make necessary repairs to the premises, although not necessarily any remodeling. You should give a letter to the manager, detailing what repairs you want done. Give them 30 days to do so, and if they do not do the repairs, you may do them yourself, and deduct from the rent.
