Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

rats in the attic

about 8 months ago we rented a single family house. at first we thought it was squirls on the roof but discovered it was rats in the attic. we tried to solve the problem ourself by putting out poison and thought it worked but it turns out that they left for the winter. now they are back and have nested and there seem to be more rats every day in the attic. we put out poison and its not working. now they have almost chewed a hole clear through the wood slat celing. is this a problem i have to take care of myself with an exterminator (we cant afford to hire)or is this now something the landlord has to take care of?

The landlord is required to take care of this kind of problem.

Re: rats in the attic

This is definitely a problem your landlord should correct. Send him/her/it a certified letter describing the problem.
