Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Real Estate Investing

I'm a new real estate investor in the Los Angeles, CA area. I'm interested in doing assignment of contracts to start my business. Do I need any license to do assignment of contracts in California?

Re: Real Estate Investing

Maybe I'm missing something here. I'm an old timer and I don't always know the latest street jargon. My problem here is that I have no idea whatsoever what you mean by "assignment of contracts" as a means of starting a real-estate investment business. What kind of contracts? Assignment from whom to whom? This has a ring of someting that may require a broker's license, but I really don't know. Before I could really advise you, I'd need to know precisely what your business proposes to do, what your prior experience in real estate investing has been, your education and licenses, and how much cash you have to invest or put at risk. I'd say if you never had a real estate license, lack an advanced degree in business or finance, and have less that $2 million of your own in cash that you're willing to risk on your own judgment, you are probably not adequately prepared to become a real-estate investor. There are certainly exceptions, but you haven't put forth nearly enough information to allow this bulletin board contributor to give you useful advice!
