Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Real Estate Property Lien

I have a question regarding a lien on my property. I had ''CO-inherited'' a piece of property, but have recently become the soul title holder, the other party in which I previously co-owned with actually owes the IRS over $100,000.00 which I was unaware of until I tried to get a loan for some home improvements and was told that I would have to pay this debt on the previous ''co-owner's'' behalf. I wanted to know if this is legal, and would this lien give them more right to my property then what me? I am completely at a loss and feel that I have been cheated.

Thank You for your time!

Re: Real Estate Property Lien

The IRS probably only has a lien on 1/2 of the property. Contact the IRS yourself to work this out. Do not leave it to your mortgage broker as he is probably only concerned with getting his commission without having to do any work for you.
