Re: Real Estate Property Tax

Your zip code indicates you are in Cypress. While a number of real estate attorneys should be able to handle this, so should tax lawyers.

There are probably more real estate attorneys than tax attorneys in Orange County. Don't be afraid to ask their qualifications in advance.

Good luck!

We handle that type of situation. The Assessor needs to be provided additional assessments contradicting the date of death value. DO you recall if the Property went through Probate?

Please feel free to contact our office at the number provided by LawGuru. You can also learn a little more about us as well as about Probate, Wills and Trusts on our firm's site at No-Probate.com.

Re: Real Estate Property Tax

I would lean more toward a lawyer who handles administration of estates, or wills, trusts and estates law, than real estate, since the former categories probably face this issue more often. This shouldn't be a huge legal problem requiring hours of research, especially if you have good records. The main issue might turn out to be whether the purchase from your brother was at fair market value or if you got a bargain for some reason.
