Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I have just received a "notice of intent to file lien" from Servpro, a contractor that worked on my home during the month of April of this year. They 'completed' (boy, did they 'complete.." we are still recovering from their recovery efforts) the job in May. It is now November.

I understand that California has a 90 window in which to file such a lien, from the date of completion. It has been at least 150 days since they left us to our own devices. Can they still file a lien?

Yes they can file it. The question is whether they can enforce it. "Completion" is a tough legal concept to deal with. It is a specialized legal term in this context. It may not be what you think. If they did "complete" more than 90 days ago, then there is a specialized process for removing the lien. If you follow the procedure and they refuse to release it, you can get your attorneys' fees reimbursed for forcing them to remove it.
