Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I recently purchased a home that has three fish ponds in the front yard. Each pond is approximately four to five feet deep and six feet in diameter. I drained all the water out of each pond, and someday I plan to fill in the empty pond holes. In the mean time, am I legally responsible if someone enters my property, falls in one of the holes, and is injured.

Quite likely, but no more so than if they fell in and drowned when they were full of water. I highly recommend a good home owners' insurance policy.

You could be liable. It depends on how foreseeable it is that someone would be hurt. If you live in a populated area, and children would be tempted to trespass and play in there then you may have a problem with what is known as an "attractive nuisance."
