Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

relocating costs of tenants

I am currently being evicted by new owners, I've heard that if property is sold, the new owners are responsible for any relocation costs and even rent up to $5,000.00..Is this true? He offered me $500.00 if Ileft before our hearing date, but then renigged. What are my rights?

Re: relocating costs of tenants

This is not true in general but it might be true where you live, because some cities have local rent-control ordinances that restrict the usual statewide notice-and-eviction laws.

You could ask other tenants, or look in the city government pages of your phone book for an agency that looks like it administers rent control, then call and inquire.
