Generally no. If it is a lease you are probably bound for the term of the lease unless the landlord agrees IN WRITING to cancel the lease. If it is a month-to-month, you will need to give 30 days written notice, or whatever notice the rental agreement (if in writing) requires.

Although California statutes allow a "cooling-off period" during which a buyer can rescind (cancel) a few kinds of contracts, no such law applies to most contracts, including residential leases or rental agreements.
