Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Rent Increase & Pool Access
I have lived in my apartment for 1 year, the rent is $1525.00 and they are increasing the rent to $1600.00 to renew my lease for 6 months. If I choose not to renew my lease they will increase the rent to $1665.00 on a month to month basis. My income has not gone up and I cannot afford this and I cannot move because I don't have the money to do so. I have lived at these apartments for 5 years in 3 other apartments. My question is, Can they increase my rent this much? Also I have asked them for 3 years to install a pool chair to access the pool. I am a paraplegic and can only use this to access the pool. They have refused to do this so I can not use all 3 pools on the property! I think that they have to install this don't they? Please let me know your answer as soon as possible because I must decide what to do before July 20. Thank you.

Re: Rent Increase & Pool Access
The rent increase sounds lawful so long as there exist no rent control ordinance on your area. As far as pool access you might have a case under the American with Disabilities Act. If you are located in Southern California call me for a free telephone consultation at 818-342-8020x1
