If a rent payment is due on the first of each month, if the first falls on the week end, does that give

the renters an extra day?

Not legally. As with credit card companies, your obligation is to have the money to them by that date.

You do not get extra days to pay rent, if the due date is a weekend or holiday.

Check your lease, though. Sometimes, the lease allows for payment on the next business day, after a Sunday or holiday. Also, it is common to see a provision, indicating that rent is due on the 1st, but not deemed delinquent until a later date.
