Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Renters Relocation Rights
I rent a house in Burbank and the City of Burbank bought the property. They are going to evict us and are willing to relocate us. I would like to know the rights we have as far as what we should expect monetarily. Our house is three bedroom, 1475 sq. ft. and we pay $1400.00 per month. There is no property available comparable to that in Burbank now. Also, I have a 13 year old daughter who has been going to school in Burbank and has 5 more years to go. If we have to relocate to another area she will have to go to another school not as good as Burbank District.
Please advise. Thank you.

Re: Renters Relocation Rights
You should obtain and read California Government Code sections 7260 through 7277, which cover the duty of a public entity acquiring real property by eminent domain to provide relocation assistance.
Also review your own lease for any applicable provisions.
The codes can be found at most public libraries and also on line. If you need further assistance in understanding how the code provisions affect you or in enforcing your rights, contact a local attorney.
