Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

renters

My son is in college and has 2 roomates. One of them, Sean, has PG&E in his name. He moved out and my son just found the PG&E bill and it hasn;t been paid for months. My son has been giving money monthly to pay the bill but Sean pocketed the money and did not pay the bill. PG&E says my son and the other roomate are responsible for the bill even though it isn't in their name. What re course do they have?

Re: renters

Are you SURE that's PG&E's official attitude? That warrants double-checking, as I'd be surprised if anyone other than the responsible party on the utility account can be held liable. I could be wrong, but verify this!
