Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Help were renting a forclosure house.

we are currently rented a home on a 1 year lease and have lived here 11 months. the owners told us that they were moving to taiwain and to forward all rental payments to her sister who lives in other city here in the US. but has left us no phone# or add to contact them. we have not paid this months rent as the roof had severe damage and when it rained the water soaked the carpet and ruined the paint and all our belongings. we contacted fair housing and code enforcement but they said they cant help us. now we just learned the house is under forclosure what are our options? can we try to buy the home? will we be liable to them for rent?

Re: Help were renting a forclosure house.

You would have the same right to bid on the house at the foreclosure sale as any other person. If you are thinking of buying the house get some professional help. You need to know what you are getting into. A title policy would be a good idea. There may be taxes or other liens on the property that will survive the foreclosure sale. Unless you are careful you may have a very unpleasant surprise after you buy the house.

If you are serious about buying the house contact the mortgagor and see if you can make arrangements for paying your bid at the foreclosure sale. You will have be prepared to pay for the house at the time your bid is accepted at the foreclosure sale.
