who is responsible for tree trimming?

I gave my neighbor permission to trim the branch of our tree that is on his side of the fence but he told me I needed to pay his gardner to do it. Is it my responsiblity or his?

Please help!

It's your responsibility.

If the trees grow on your property, any part of them that intrudes across the property line (limbs, roots) is a trespass, and the cost to mitigate (remove) the trespass falls on you.
