I assume the issue has to do with ownership of the property, rather than a right of possession under a lease. In either case, a real estate lawyer should handle it, although unless really unusual issues turn up, a general practitioner should be able to handle it.
If your group's claim is based on a claim of ownership, the situation calls for an initial search of title records to the property.
Sometimes in cases involving nonprofit groups, title itself is vested in the name of the organization and there is no dispute as to that; instead, the dispute is over who, or which sub-group, has the right to manage the nonprofit. There may be a contested election or some kind of in-house purge or dispute. In such a situation, you may need a lawyer who specializes in management problems of nonprofit organizations rather than a real estate lawyer.
If there is an election challenge, move quickly, because there is a short statute of limitations for contesting an election - nine months, I think, but check it out, as I'm not sure.

Follow Mr. Whipple's advice.
However, your question is unclear as to whether the building was taken over, or your non-profit organization. Either way, I don't think an attorney merely specializing in real estate is enough.
