Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Security Deposit
I recently left my apartment at the termination of my lease.
I had a walk through to determine how much of my security deposit would be refunded to me (based on the condition of the unit). An amount was determined from the walk through and itemized on a cleaing form from the complex. I signed this form as did the complex employee who conducted the walk through.
I retained a copy and still have that copy.
I expected a check in the normal amount of time of the amount specified on the form we filled out. What I got was a check for significantly less and a copy of the form with the numbers changed (obviously whited out) and my signature on the form. I still have the original copy showing the original amounts.
The original check was deposited ( I shouldn't have done that I think) and I persued getting the remainder of the money via phone calls. The sent me another check, for even less and informed me the the original check had been stopped.
What recourse do I have to get the correct amount of money?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Security Deposit
It sounds to me that there is something odd going on at the complex you were leasing at. You are probably looking at a small claims action, which involves a number of steps. There are also other available options you may have. You may contact us to discuss these if you so desire.
This is general information that I hope has been helpful to you. However, you should always obtain legal counsel familiar with your specific circumstances.
