Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

What can a Security Deposit be used for when vacating property?

I want to know is it legal for a landlord to try to keep your entire security deposit if you left

premesis clean and in tact? Also for them to try

& stick you with a cleaning fee if you clean the

apartment? Cany they claim on late fees when you

have no knowledge of ever being late on anything?

No, it is not correct. If the premises were clean and there

was no damage, and all rent was paid timely, the

security deposit should be returned. You should sue in small

claims court for the deposit and statutory damages. The landlord

must give you notice in writing concerning the exact application

of all of the security deposit not returned.
