Yes, although you may have a hard time convincing your bank that you got the best possible price if you don't use a paid broker. If, by the way, you were thinking of keeping a commission, you can forget that. No bank will approve a short sale that provides cash to the defaulting borrower.

I agree with Mr. Whipple. You would simply be asking for the short sale for yourself. And as Mr. McCormick points out, you wouldn't get a "commission."
