Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

solar panel installation

We moved to California from Idaho. We had attractive solar panels installed on our roof, not understanding that solar panel installation required a architectural design change review by the HOA. Now they say we must paint our solar panels (which would defeat their purpose) or have them removed. Does the California Solar Rights Act protect us or are we going to have to go to court to protect our right to use solar to heat our pool? We realize we erred in not getting a ''review'' done first - our mistake - but does the Solar Rights Act have any backbone to it or not?

Thanks for your response.

Re: solar panel installation

You already removed them? I would have to research it, but my thoughts are that the Act and public policy may preempt the HOA rules/contract. You may contact me.
