That is a term to put in the purchase and sale agreement. The buyer is entitled to posession and occupancy upon close of escrow, unless there is a rent-back agreement in place.

Mr. McCormick is correct. The answer to your question is in your purchase and sale contract. It tells you when you are to vacate the property, and if you are going to occupy the property after close of escrow, there is usually a rental period in which you would pay the new owner rental for occupying the house.
