Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Self Storage Rental -delinquent charges legal?

my self-storage rent was 2 weeks late(before I had to pay a $10 late fee(per rental agreement), this time-apparently there was a change in ownership I wasn't aware of,the notice said $50 in various ''late lien'' charges would be added in the future, unless payment of amount was received by said date. I mailed pmt, only to have it returned before date, because ''other charges'' had become due, and they couldnt accept partial payment. I didn't have the extra money,now,1 month later, the charges exceed $100(none were mentioned in rental agreement made with other owner)an ther e will be an auction sale- CAN THEY DO THAT? WHAT CAN I DO?

The law regarding self-storage facilities is found in the Business and Professions Code. See sections 21701-21715. These include a relatively recent provision, 21713.5, eff. 1/1/2001 I think, regarding late payment fees. You can find and read these Code sections on line.
