Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

subleting an apartment

I live in Los Angeles and I need to know how I can legally sublet my apartment. I had a one year lease which turned into a month to month deal.

Thank you.

Re: subleting an apartment

Subletting - also called sub-leasing - is simply a pass-along of rights that you have to another. A month-to-month deal is, in essence, a string of consecutive one-month leases. So, I guess on June 1 you could sublet until June 30, if you rental agreement doesn't forbid it, but you can't create a longer tenancy in a subtenant than you yourself have.

It's analogous to owning a half interest in a house. You can sell your half interest, but you can't sell the whole house.

Why would you want to do this?
