Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Tax Default Property

I am interested in purchasing a multifamily property through a tax default auction. I was under the impression that the tax collectors office through the sheriffs department would clear all parties from the tax default properties prior to the auction. Upon making a successful bid, if people still live inside, what recourse do I have? Am I responsible for paying a relocation fee of $5,000 per household or do I just have to go through the normal eviction process?

Re: Tax Default Property

So you want help in making a bunch of people homeless. The sheriff is not going to do your dirty work for you, and neither am I. Possibly depending on whether the property is in a locality where there are laws to protect innocent tenants, you might have to pay relocation benefits or honor the existing leases. I am sure there are lawyers who will advise you, and I hope they charge you lots of money.
