Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Tenant and Landlord: Security Deposits

I was given a security deposit itemization list 10 days after I vacated the apartment. The itemization showed no deducations. I was to received all money back. Then 10 days after that notice came another. The form was identical, however, this notice stated I owed almost 1,000 dollars to replace the carpet.

My question is do I have to pay the $1,000 or should the landlord pay me $400 (my deposit)?

Re: Tenant and Landlord: Security Deposits

i wouldnt pay. you are not responsible for damage if it is normal wear and tear. I would go to small claims court for the $400
