Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My tenant took personal possessions (designer mirrors) that were used in the property for enhancement of rentability. This mirrors have been used by left with the unit in past for other tenants. The items are described as personal property in the rental agreement they signed. They have just been evicted and the deposit is not covering the items they took. We just took over the property yesterday. Should I file a police report?

You can try, but I think in some police jurisdictions they will decline to take a report on the basis that it is "a civil matter." Before going to the police, I would recommend contacting the former tenants via their cell phone numbers or at their forwarding address to demand that they return the mirrors. Also very likely they will try to turn them into cash, so check yard sales, pawn shops and antique dealers in their new neighborhood.
