Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Tenant Rights-Cockroach infestation

I am curious to know what my rights are as a tenant. I lived in my apartment for apporx.6 years. Ever since i moved in there has been a cockroach problem here. I have complained to the landlord and all he does is buy the bombs and gives us the lecture that roaches are scavengers they hunt for food. He has been told the the whole building is infested and needs put a tent on the buildng, but he wont do that either, I keep my house very clean and dont leave dishes out at all, roaches are everywhere, my kitchen, my bed, me, my silverware, EVEYWHERE. What can i do? I even have mold on my bathroom wall, under the PAINT? Please help!!!! have reported my landlord to the health departemnt for the roaches as well as the code enforcement people, but so far nothing has been done, any help you can give me would be very much apprciated, thank you

Re: Tenant Rights-Cockroach infestation

I'm not sure what your recourse is other than reporting this to the local health department and any local (city or county) agency regulating and inspecting apartments. If this has been a 6-year problem, you may not want to hear this, but perhaps you should look for a new apartment--the landlord has resisted action for 6 years, and seems in no hurry to take care of the problem.
