Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Termination of Lease

Me and my mother have been leasing a apartment for 2 years now. We paid first and last and a security deposit to move into the place. The lease was renewed in march Which for a renewal we were charged and additional 800.00. Just this month when rent was do our landlord came with a paper saying we need to move out by next month because she is selling the place and didnt tell us until after she took our rent money for this month. I'm really confused because she has been taking money from us and I no this is not suppose to be done. Can you please let me know if this is right and if not what schould we do?
