Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

vehicle problems please help

My name is on a loan and registration with an ex girlfriend. The vehicle is in her possesion and shes current on the payments. I want my name off, but she wont agree. I do not want to go through the trouble of taking her to court for this. Is it possible for me to do a self repo? Or, would it be illeagal for me to take the vehichle into my possesion or have it towed until she takes it out of my name? Do you have any suggestions?

If title to the vehicle is in her name alone, and you take the vehicle into your possession without her consent, you may be criminally liable for theft. My suggestion is do NOT resort to "self-help." If the loan company will not agree to remove your name from the loan (and they probably will not), I think you may be stuck with the loan until it is paid off, or until she stops paying the loan. Even if you take your ex to court, the court will not likely be able to force her to remove your name from the loan. The loan documents are a contractual obligation between you and the lender.
