Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
My wife and I live in a multi-unit complex on the second floor. In March of this year we had a new A/C and furnace unit installed.
This evening, our directly-downstairs neighbor informed us that water was dripping from their ceiling, directly below our A/C unit. We immediately turned off our A/C and the dripping evidently stopped.
We called the contractors and they will be coming tomorrow. My question involves liability. Our neighbor may experience water damage and mold. Who is liable in this situation? We are still under warranty with the contractor as installation was less than five months ago. I assume they will fix our problem and get our unit up and running again without the leak. But we may have water damage of our own, not to mention our downstairs neighbor.

You didn't specify if you live in an apartment or if this is a condo that belongs to you. That's crucial, obviously.
