Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I know a woman who purchased a home with her husband in 1997. She wanted to refinance 2 years later and he said no but she refinanced anyway and he deeded himself off the property and divorced her. Since the divorce she has refinanced the home at least 3 times vesting that she is married. Is this legal?
