Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Do I need a written rental contract?
I have lived in my current rental for 2 1/2 years. When I first moved into this house I was also responsible for paying the electricity for the mobile home located behind my house which was occupied by another tenant. My landlord split the bill in half and took it off the rent. A year later the other tenant moved out and I proved to the landlord that my bill alone was not as high as I was paying for. But the landlord never gave me full credit for what I paid when the other tenant lived there.
Also, I have never gotten a written contract/lease from my landlord. Nor have I ever gotten anything from him other then a pager number in which to contact him. I have asked my landlord numerous times for both and he has never complied.

Re: Do I need a written rental contract?
it is probably a good idea to get a written rental agreement but he is not required to give you one.
