Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

A little over a year ago we were looking to modify our mortgage loan and were led to someone who said she could help us. Her first advice was to stop making payments on the house, We did, Nothing has happened since except that we cant find her for three wks now and our house has a sale date of 4/9/2010. I have been trying to talk with the bank myself but they don't return my calls, they just tell me to call the next day for updates, I keep getting different information each time I call from the representatives, and i dont know what to do
