Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California
deposition Question
I received a notice to appear for a deposition in Jan. The individual that is being investigated is a relative. However I know nothing of the issue in question. Am I compelled to attend or may I simply not show up?

Re: deposition Question
More than likely, your relative said that you had contact with that person and might have observed injuries from the accident or whatever it is that the lawsuit is about.
Definitely you should show up. You are entitled to a modest witness fee and mileage before you open up your mouth to speak. You might arrange that in advance with the lawyer who subpoenaed you.
When you speak to that lawyer, you might try to get an idea what it is they're trying to learn from you or dissuade him/her from taking your deposition because you know nothing.
