Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

I have been offered money in exchange for companionship (which pretty much means sex) on seekingarrangement.com. Does the website terms of agreement (stating I'm not an escort or prostitute) place me under an umbrella of protection from the law?

No. Compensation for sex paid by either participant (as opposed to, say, porn where both partners are paid by the film company) is illegal no matter how you dress it up. The key is the quid pro quo element. If you will not have sex with the other person without compensation, it is a crime. If the other person induces you to enter into that arrangement they have committed the crime of solicitation. Only if any exchange of value is independent of the sex, is the law not broken. Where exactly the line is crossed in "sugar daddy" arrangements is sometimes a bit tricky, but cash for sex, offered or demanded, is illegal no matter what label you put on it.
