Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

question about the definition of sexual harassment

To whom it my concerned,

May I ask you one question of what happened to me

recently. I used to work for a power supply company in CA

and quit the job last year. Moved to other country. And

now working as an independent agency for the customer who

needs the information for all the merchandise.

Recently I have one customer in IL, USA who sent me the

photos of his nude body and a close-up shot of his

masculine organ with the obscene spoken while we were

talking business through Yahoo messenger.

I tried to stop him not to do this again as Ifelt very

uncomfortable. He didn't stop until I closed up the

conversation dialog window. And after that day I felt so sick and didn't dare to get on line and talk to him. I got nightmare since that day. I don't know if this is called

the sexual harassment. If it is, what shall I do? As I'm

neither the employee in his company nor other

organization. What can I do? As I still need to contact

him for the business. Can you please help me?

The copies of what he sent to me still kept in my

computer, will that be helpful as an evidence?

No more chat. Communicate by e-mail only, and don't open any attachments unless you know what they are. Send him a communication explaining that such images and comments are unwelcome, and he must cease immediately.

Your question is better directed to an attorney in Illinois. State laws are generally more protective than federal law, and an attorney in Illinois would be more familiar if whether the state's anti-harassment laws extend to independant contractors and harassment by third parties.
