Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California
Strange case - Does this fall under sexual harassment law?
The building manager of the apartment I live in hired some contractors to do work inside my apartment. They were given a key to access the unit.
I came home to find that my desk drawers and jewelry box had been rifled through and some very private adult items were taken out of a drawer and put under the covers of my bed in a ''display''.
I do not think anything was stolen so the police said they were not sure what crime was committed. The contractors had access to the unit so the police said it's not considered breaking and entering but obviously this person has seriously violated my privacy and went out of their way to humiliate me. They may have thought it was just a joke but I feel very threatened and intend to take legal action against the contractors.
Would this be covered under sexual harassment law?

It sounds like an invasion of your right to privacy and a breach of the convenant of quiet enjoyment implied in your lease. What it's worth, though, is another story. It might be a small claims matter if you can pin a dollar value on it, particularly if you were required to treat for your upset over the incident.
