Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

I used to be on disability income (SSI). But then my soulmate went to heaven and left me with $50,000 life insurance money. The money will run out later this year. I'm hoping to become financially independent (I'm training to get a job as a medical transcriptionist), but there's a chance I may not get a job, especially since I lack a work history. So is it possible or likely that I may get SSI again if I reapply?

I am so sorry for your loss.

As you are aware, to qualify for SSI you have to meet the medical definition of disability and the non medical requirements which means that your assets are less than $2000. So you could not apply until the life insurance money is exhausted.

As for reapplying, if you qualified before, and your medical condition has not improved, and you are still under doctor's care and are compliant in what your doctor has prescribed regarding medication, etc, you should be able to qualify again. And the second time in applying will be a faster process than the first as the SSA will reference your first claim and simply need you to update your medical records.

I wish you well.
