Legal Question in Social Security Law in California
inheritance
Hi
I know someone who is disabled and getting SSI. He just recently recieved an inheritance of $40,000.
Can this person lose their SSI benefits? Also, how much will this person have to pay in taxes?
Thanks
Lori

Re: inheritance
Yes, your friend will lose his SSI benefits unless the money is put into a particular type of trust. Our office uses the Special Needs Trust which has worked for our clients.
